Missoula Children’s Theatre to hold auditions Aug. 2 in Minturn
July 14, 2010
MINTURN –The Missoula Children’s Theatre will return to Minturn Aug. 2-7 to produce “The Princess and the Pea” with a cast of local kids.
Open auditions will be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Minturn Town Council Chambers at 302 Pine Street. After last year’s presentation of “Pinocchio,” the Missoula Children’s Theatre will again bring children’s theater back to Minturn. The Missoula Children’s Theatre is the nation’s largest touring theatre for children and has now been touring extensively for 35 years from Montana to Japan.
The touring theatre company arrives in Minturn Aug. 2 to hold open auditions for local and visiting students. The auditions will be held in the Minturn Town Council Chambers. Those auditioning should arrive at 1 p.m. and plan to stay for the full two hours. Some of the cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the audition.
This is an opportunity for local and visiting students to participate in a full-scale performance of “The Princess and the Pea” in just a week. The tour team arrives in town with a set, lights, costumes, props and makeup, everything it takes to put on a play – except the actors. All Missoula Children’s Theatre shows are original adaptations of classic children’s stories and fairytales but with a twist.
“Something very special happens when these young people begin pulling together,” said James Caron, executive director of the Missoula Children’s Theatre. “They learn to discipline themselves and to support one another. And, they learn to trust in themselves. It’s something you see in their eyes when they’re on stage. Something that says, ‘Hey, look at us. We’ve achieved something. It’s exciting and fun and we’re sharing it with all of you.'”
About 50 roles are available for students. All students entering first through eighth grades are encouraged to audition. No advance preparation is necessary. Most students rehearse four hours each day, Tuesday through Friday. Two free community performances will be presented Aug. 7 at 1 and 3:30 p.m. at the Little Beach Park Amphitheater in Minturn. There is a fee of $75 for the entire week of fun and theatrical experiences. Financial need scholarships are available through the Minturn Community Fund.
