Mom pleads not guilty in deaths of 3 kids

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) ” A woman charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of her three children in an arson at their home has pleaded not guilty.

Deborah Nicholls, 40, is due to go on trial June 2 in the deaths of Jay, 11, Sophia, 5, and Sierra Nicholls, 3, in 2003.

She pleaded not guilty Friday to charges of first-degree murder, child abuse, illegal drug use and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.

Nicholls’ husband, Timothy Nicholls, is serving three life sentences after a jury convicted him last year of felony murder in the deaths.

Deborah Nicholls’ attorneys will argue at a hearing set for Feb. 22 whether her trial should be held in El Paso County or moved.

Nicholls is being held without bond. She could be sentenced to life in prison without parole if convicted of first-degree murder.
