More camps to choose from this summer
EAGLE COUNTY – Since the Vail Daily recently published a story about summer camp options for local children, we’ve had a few more local camp organizers contact us about even more choices. Here’s a look at three other camps open to children and youth this summer:Hollywood 101 – Not your typical summer day camp, Hollywood 101 is geared toward kids who’d like a taste of acting on-camera. Celebrity teachers include Power Rangers stars Vernon G. Wells, Kate Sheldon and Jason Faunt. Kids from ages 6 to 18 will have the opportunity to learn how to audition for commercials, movies and TV. They’ll experience hair and wardrobe makeovers and learn things like monologues, voice-overs and TV news reporting. All participants will also have a head shot photo taken by a professional photographer.Hollywood 101 will take place at Edwards Elementary from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 21 and 22. Vail Valley Adventure Camp – This day camp is held at Meadow Mountain and Eagle Valley elementary schools. The camp is aimed at kids aged 5 to 13 and features daily activities like golf, skateboarding, inline skating, swimming, scavenger hunts, arts and crafts, team sports, games and more. There are also weekly day-long field trips to places like climbing walls, rec centers, putt-putt golf courses and bowling alleys. The camp runs from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. June 6 to Aug. 12 and costs $30 per day. For information or to register, call Ron Moreno at 390-9784.
Wilderness Climbing Club – This day camp offers 16, one-day rock-climbing sessions to kids between age 10 and 15. Sessions are limited to 12 participants and begin June 14 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In addition to the fun and thrill of climbing, kids will build self-esteem by overcoming apprehension about the climb and build trust with their peers. Cost is $30 per session or $125 for five days.For more information or to register, call 926-9376.The Art Factory – Art Explorations Day Camp starts on June 6. In the program, children to work with a variety of artistic media, including painting, printmaking, sculpture, tye dye, jewelry-making, collage, 3-D art, crafts, drawing and other projects from all around the world.
Every week has a different theme, such as drama and puppetry, wearable art, hat-making, space camp, and under the sea adventures. Day camp is open to ages 5 to 13 five days a week. There is also a tots class for 2- and 3-year-olds, and a Mother’s and Dad’s Day Out Program for ages 2 1/2 to 5, as well as a class for 4- and 5-year olds called Little Picassos.
