VAIL – More than half a foot of snow could fall tonight and another eight inches may be on the way Tuesday. A winter storm warning is in effect for Vail until 6 a.m., Wednesday.

Vail Mountain has celebrated a few powder days this late winter and spring after less-than-average snowfall during the season. Vail Mountain reported 11 inches of snow Thursday night and 16 inches in the last seven days. Beaver Creek has reported 11 inches in the last seven days.

The National Weather Service predicts 4 to 8 inches tonight with the same amount possible Tuesday. The high temperature today should only hit 28 and the chance of snow is 80 percent.

Another 1 to 2 inches could fall Tuesday night and during the day Wednesday, the Weather Service says.

The snow should end Wednesday afternoon and the rest of the week should be drier and warmer, the Weather Service says.
