More Town Talk for Aug. 5

Vail, CO Colorado
One of the wonders of living in the Vail Valley is having chance encounters with the wild animals that share our land. Jen Crotzer sent photos and wrote about a surprising encounter July 29: "This morning my husband woke me up saying, 'Hurry, come look outside. You will never believe me if I tell you!' He was correct; we have a ton of wildlife around our house because of the pond and open space. I expected a mother bear with her cubs, a mountain lion, a bobcat, a fox (all of which I have seen in our back yard heading toward the pond), but this was a first. It was a sheep! I felt so bad for it because it was obvious something happened that created the separation. I wanted to help, but the golfers, runners, bikers and cars had it very scared and disoriented. My first thought was maybe it was the same animal that spooked the moose who took shelter in our pond with her babies! The sheep went north (up June Creek toward the open space) at a fast, frantic pace, and we did not see him/her after that!"
