More Town Talk for Sept. 9

Vail, CO Colorado

The second-annual Ladies of the Valley tennis tournament fundraiser for Special Olympics of Eagle County took place recently at the Beaver Creek Tennis Center. Twenty wonderful local women tennis players participated to provide a series of fantastic tennis matches. Defending champion Sally Horn, along with partner Shiloy Sanders, took first place. Mindy Feldman and Ann Mintz came in second. Reese and Dave, the tennis pros at the center, did an outstanding job of coordinating the matches and providing humor amongst the players. They raised $1,710 for important programs for our special-needs population, such as bowling, skiing, snowshoeing, swimming, etc.

Are you interested in having a great time, winning prizes and socializing with coworkers? The Junior Achievement Bowl-A-Thon takes place Sept. 20 at Bol in Vail and Sept. 21 at The Back Bowl in Eagle. Junior Achievement’s goal is to create generations of young people who are financially literate, work force ready and entrepreneurial. All the money that is raised will go directly toward kindergarten to 12th-grade classroom programs here in Eagle County. It’s easy to participate! Teams of five sign up for two hours of bowling, which includes shoe rental, pizza, beer or soda and fun! There is a $150 team registration fee, and each bowler agrees to fundraise or contribute $100. Each team that raises $500 provides materials for a volunteer to teach a classroom of 34 students.
