Moroles sculpture to be relocated within Vail
Vail, CO Colorado
VAIL, Colorado – “Granite Amphitheater,” the sculpture by Jesus Moroles, will be installed in Vail at a new location, the town of Vail said.
It has been in storage since 2005 after its removal from the top of Bridge Street in Vail Village. Ford Park has been selected as an engaging natural setting for the work of art. The reinstallation will begin Tuesday and will take about eight weeks.
While Moroles was already a notable artist when “Granite Amphitheater” was acquired by the town in 1998, he has continued to garner recognition for his work. In 2008, he was selected by the National Endowment for the Arts to be a recipient of the National Medal of Arts Award which was presented to him by the president of the United States.
The new setting in Ford Park for the granite sculptures will include the original granite terraces, reworked to fit the new site, the three vertical granite sculptures and the grass-filled cobble stones from the original site. The work is being done by-Icon Construction-and is being funded by allocations set aside in 2005 from the Vail Village Streetscape Project, AIPP and a private donation.
