Motorcyclist dies after he strikes a deer in East Vail

VAIL — A Lakewood man traveling by motorcycle in the 3600 block of the North Frontage Road near the East Vail interchange died after striking a deer. The accident took place at approximately 12:30 a.m. Monday. The crash was discovered by a taxi driver who immediately called 911.

The male motorcyclist, identified as Gary George Stock, 54, was breathing but unresponsive to arriving emergency workers. Stock was immediately transported to Vail Valley Medical Center by ambulance. Within 30 minutes of his arrival at the hospital, Stock was helicoptered to Denver Health. Stock sustained major injuries to his head and torso.

The road was closed for approximately two hours while the Vail Police Department conducted an investigation. Stock was not wearing a helmet when the accident occurred. The deer did not survive.
