BASALT, Colorado ” A local man was listed in critical condition Tuesday after he crashed a motorcycle on Frying Pan Road and was airlifted to a Denver hospital early Sunday morning.

Steve Reschetnikow, 24, has been under the care of Swedish Medical Center in Denver.

State police reported that Reschetnikow was riding his late-model Harley Davidson alongside two other motorcycles when he crashed at 11:49 p.m. Saturday.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, and a passing motorist dialed 911.

The Colorado State Patrol did not know if Reschetnikow was wearing a helmet, and friends reported that Reschetnikow suffered a head injury and an injury to his hip.

Reschetnikow originally is from Russia and has lived in the area for several years, most recently along Frying Pan Road, according to close friend Shirley Pierce of Redstone.

Reschetnikow works the graveyard shift as a snowcat operator on Aspen Mountain during the winter and for an irrigation company during the summer.

Pitkin County deputies and Basalt emergency crews were the first on scene at the accident and reported there was CPR in progress when they arrived, according to state police officials.

Reschetnikow was transported to Aspen Valley Hospital and later airlifted to Swedish Medical Center in Denver, arriving at 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

Swedish Medical Center officials said Reschetnikow was with family in the critical-care unit, but could not offer any more information.

Reschetnikow cannot accept gifts of flowers, but hospital staff said e-mails can sent through the hospital website, http://www.swedishhospital.com.
