The popular Mount of the Holy Cross Overlook off Shrine Pass Road will be closed for public safety from June 21 through Aug. 31 while the observation deck is replaced.
The overlook, commonly called “Julia’s Deck,” is a popular stop on Shrine Pass Road and offers a view of 14,005-foot Mount of the Holy Cross — Eagle County’s lone 14er. The closure will include the parking area, vault toilet, trail and observation deck.
The new observation deck will be constructed to better withstand conditions at 11,000 feet and will require less maintenance in the long term. The project was funded through a partnership with the National Forest Foundation and Vail Resorts Ski Conservation Fund.
The estimated Aug. 31 completion date is weather-dependent.
