Mountain climber to speak at Vail Patagonia store
VAIL, Colorado – Mountain climber Kelly Cordes will give a talk and show slides at 8:15 p.m., Friday night, at the Vail Patagonia store. The presentation is entitled, “Trying, Failing, and Sometimes Succeeding: Kelly Cordes’ Most Memorable Climbs.”Cordes will describe his adventures, from his early days as “Sketchy Kelly” to his climbs in some of the world’s bigger alpine arenas. Cordes’ lightweight-style outings have ranged from complete flops to new lines in Alaska, Peru, Pakistan, and Patagonia. In 2004, he and Josh Wharton established one of the biggest rock climbs in history, on Great Trango Tower in Pakistan’s Karakoram Mountains. In 2007, on his first trip to Patagonia, he and Colin Haley climbed a new ice link-up on Cerro Torre. Cordes also climbs near his home in Estes Park, Colorado, where he works as a freelance writer and as the senior editor of the American Alpine Journal.Info on Patagonia Vail’s Facebook page:www.facebook.com/search/?q=patagonia+vail&init=quick#/pages/Patagonia-Vail/179105272789?ref=mfKelly Cordes’s blog: http://kellycordes.wordpress.com/
