Mushroom and Wild Food Festival registration open

EAGLE — Eagle’s Mushroom and Wild Food Festival is returning to town for its eighth year Aug. 21-23.

Organizer Tom Boni has been involved with the festival since its beginning and he noted that this year’s event includes some new options along with its already proven fare. As always the event will combine mushroom education with actual foraging followed by dining. For 2015, popular speakers Larry Evans, Ken Kassenbrock and Katrina Blair will be joined by newcomers author Eugenia Bone and forager and purveyor of wild food Graham Steinruck.

Boni noted that many festival-goers are attracted to the event by the forest forays, but participants often find the guest lectures are their real takeaways.

“Mushrooms are elusive. You can’t be assured of finding a mushroom,” Boni said. “But while you may or you may not find mushroom, you will be prepared to find them on your own. That’s where the fun begins.”

The event begins Friday with a meet and greet featuring the festival speakers. The event is planned from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Back Bowl in Eagle. The weekend schedule starts up with lecture sessions beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22. and runs through Sunday afternoon, Aug. 23. Morning lectures are followed by afternoon foraging and early evening mushroom identification and dining options. The foraging sessions are free and open to the public and participants can pay $110 for an all-inclusive weekend education and event package or select only certain events on the schedule. Space is limited and early registration is encouraged.
