VAIL – The wind was vicious and the visibility murky, but that didn’t dissuade a large group of faithful skiers from enjoying some fabulous snow.Classical music lovers celebrated a winter day together, though one of their greatest loves is what the summer brings: Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival.

Hosted by Jim and Cookie Flaum, the Sandy Treat family and Steve Pope and his lovely and talented wife (yeah, that’d be me), the skiers began their day with a satisfying breakfast at Larkspur. After the hard-core group skied by Braille back down to Golden Peak, Larkspur rewarded their tenacity with a lunch of true comfort food: fried chicken, tomato soup, and warm chocolate chip cookies. The event was to say thank you to those who not only appreciate classical music in our valley but also put up the bucks that keeps world-class orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, the Rochester Philharmonic, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and – in 2007, the Philadelphia Orchestra – coming to our little valley.

Many favorites will be returning this summer for the festival, which begins on June 28. Some of the special guests include pianists Jean-Yves Thibaudet and Bramwell Tovey, baritone Daniel Narducci, the Rosetti String Quartet, and violinists Chee-Yun, Anne Akiko Meyers and Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg.Tickets are on sale now at http://www.vailmusicfestival.org or by calling their offices at 877-812-5700.
