FORT COLLINS ” A fire fed by a broken natural gas line in Fort Collins has been snuffed out after burning for more than five hours.

Poudre Fire Authority spokesman Patrick Love says Xcel Energy crews were able to shut off the gas at about 1:30 p.m. Monday and the fire went out about 15 minutes later.

The fire erupted shortly after 8 a.m. when an excavator ruptured the 4-inch gas line.

Love says the excavator was examined at a hospital but wasn’t hurt.
