Nature Center on Vail Mountain gets makeover

Carolyn Connolly
Gore Range Natural Science School
Vail, CO Colorado

VAIL, Colorado ” The Gore Range Natural Science School completed a major renovation at The Nature Discovery Center located in a Mongolian yurt at Eagle’s Nest on Vail Mountain.

The $100,000 remodel at the Nature Discovery Center offers a more interactive experience that conveys educational messages about the wildlife living on or near Vail Mountain. The new displays lining the walls of the yurt showcase animal adaptations, characteristics and habitats of the animals found in the wonderful mountain ecology atop Vail Mountain.

Visitors will discover the connections between the animals and their impacts on the environment, and gain a greater appreciation of our relationship with the animals. The interpretive exhibits featuring elk, mountain pine beetle, weasel, pocket gopher, raven, black bear and lynx allow visitors of all ages to gain naturalist skills and to discover which animals live here and how these animals survive in the unique conditions of the mountain environment.

It is a great place to go for a short amount of time or spend the day exploring on one of our guided snowshoe tours departing from the Nature Discovery Center. Families can interact with the Naturalists who staff the Nature Discovery Center and all levels of learners can gain knowledge about the natural world. The Science School’s mission is to awaken a sense of wonder and inspire environmental stewardship through natural science education.
