Need epic parking value at Vail

Chris Meister
Vail, CO, Colorado

I felt compelled to write regarding the cost to park in the Lionshead parking structure.

Vail Resorts has given the locals an Epic Pass to ski (which is great thank you VR). Now we need Epic parking from the town of Vail.

In years past a value pass was available to Eagle County residents. I went into renew my value pass from last season only to be told the Value Pass is no longer available to residents unless you work in Vail. The Vail parking committee voted to limit the value parking to town residents and employees. The parking committee members get a free Blue Pass to park and Town Council members get a free gold pass to park.

What about taking into consideration the Eagle County residents who would like to enjoy skiing Vail on powder days? If an Eagle County resident wants to ski Vail 20 days at $25, that’s $500; 40 days would be $1,000. (Give us a break.)

Some locals working are on call during the daytime and can possibly get out for three-four hours to enjoy skiing the mountains. However, if we’re called in we have to respond and cannot take the bus to some parking in West Vail or other outlining parking areas.

We have been skiing Beaver Creek because parking is free. The people losing out are the merchants in Vail and Lionshead, you can thank the parking committee and Town Council for your loss of business.

I hope the Town Council and parking committee reconsider the parking pricing and bring back the value passes for all Eagle County residents. Please keep in mind most ski resorts don’t charge anything to park when skiing the mountains.
