Neighbors can learn about Eagle-Vail apartment remodeling
Eagle-Vail, CO Colorado
EAGLE-VAIL, Colorado ” County planners and CCY Architects will discuss possible renovation of the Riverview apartments with Eagle-Vail, Colorado residents at a community open house next week.
The discussion will be held at the Eagle-Vail Pavilion at 6 p.m. on Oct. 21. The county has plans to renovate and possibly expand the affordable apartments at Riverview. The complex has 72 apartments and houses 225 residents. It is Section 8 housing, meaning it is subsidized by the federal government for low-income families.
No designs have been made yet, and the county is looking for community input as it work on plans for the complex, County Housing and Development Director Alex Potente said.
So far the county’s objectives are to improve the apartments, and it has hired CCY Architects from Basalt to look at the site, he said.
“There were rumors that we were planning to scrap the whole thing and double the number of units ” that’s not true,” Potente said.
The apartments, which were built with federal tax credits more than 30 years ago, are “in bad shape,” said Eagle County planner Yuri Kostick.
“We’re asking, what would the scope of a remodel be? Is there room for additional units?” he said.
During the remodeling, arrangements have been made for residents to move free-of-charge to other apartments in the county, including Lake Creek Village in Edwards and Buffalo Ridge in Avon, Kostick said.
The remodeling or rebuilding, which would be funded by federal tax credits, would not cost the county except in staff and planning hours, he said.
