Nepal fundraiser is Monday night in Edwards

EDWARDS — An event Monday night in Edwards will benefit victims of the Nepal earthquake.

Healing Nepal takes place at 6 p.m. Monday at Edwards Interfaith Chapel and Community Center, located at 32138 US Highway 6 in Edwards.

The evening will include a slideshow presentation, information sharing and food.

The entire community is invited to come and learn more about the situation on the ground in Nepal as a result of a massive earthquake.

There is no charge to attend, but donations are appreciated.

The Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration Mission and Outreach has set up a matching grant for every dollar donated up to $5,000.

At this time organizers are not set up to take aid in terms of clothing and medical supplies. Get more information on donating items from the many reputable organizations equipped to do so.

Organizers are seeking 30 tents and sleeping bags as immediate relief. You may bring them to the event or contact organizer Betty Ann Woodland at bettyannw6@gmail.com. Bring any item of value that you want to see on the auction table as a gift in kind.

The recipient of the funds raised is the dZi Foundation, founded by mountaineer Jim Nowak, who lived in Vail for years and in 1998 started his own non-profit to empower the poorest of the poor.

“I feel honored that we are being regarded in such a high light,” Nowak said. “This is obviously a tragic event, but we are in a position to mobilize people and help people who are hurting and in great need. We have been working in Nepal for 18 years and we are not going anywhere.”
