GYPSUM — On Sundays, Gypsum’s Costco is a bustling spot, filled with locals and visitors alike.

So starting on Sunday, the adjacent Highflier Market will try to attract some of those shoppers by offering locally grown and crafted products and produce.

The Highflier Market will be located at recently renamed The Hangar commercial strip, which is home to Heidi’s Brooklyn Deli to the south and Domino’s to the north. It is the brainchild of the center’s owner, Amy Pates, who envisions a more intimate market setting than the current, established summer markets in the valley.

“The focus is to get as many locally grown and made products as possible,” said Mary Clare Silva, who is assisting Pates to establish the market. “Ideally, we will have one of every kind of vendor.”

Silva said the market will actively try to entice shoppers as they head to Gypsum’s big-box store.

“Everyone is headed to Costco or to the airport on Sundays,” she said, “and a weekend morning is a classic time for people to go puttering around a local market. The market is just supposed to be something fun to do on a Sunday when you are hitting Costco or the airport.”

Because booth space is limited, Silva said the idea is to provide a sampling of the best offerings from local markets. She noted the market’s name — Highflier — denotes the image organizers are going for, which is an edited event that features some of the best vendors the valley offers.

The market will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Sunday through Aug. 28. Handmade arts and crafts, local farm produce, baked goods, plants, gourmet foods, apparel, beauty, health and wellness items, home and pet accessories and more will be offered.

There is still booth space available. To learn more, visit http://www.highflier market.org or contact Pates at 970-977-0483.
