VAIL – Vail Resorts is planning a new, table-service restaurant on Vail Mountain. The preferred place for the restaurant is near the top of Chairs 4, 5 and 11, said Jen Brown, spokeswoman for Vail Mountain.”It’s in the very early planning stages,” Brown said. The restaurant could seat up to 500 people, Brown said.Vail Resorts still has to finalize its concept for the restaurant, and then get approval from both the U.S. Forest Service and Eagle County, Brown said.

Vail Resorts operates Vail Mountain on Forest Service land under a permit. The company hopes to open the restaurant around the 2010-11 ski season, Brown said.”It would provide an additional option for mountain dining,” Brown said. There’s already a waiter-service restaurant at the Blue Moon Restaurant at the top of the gondola. The Game Creek Club also has a restaurant with waiters, but it is only open to members while the lifts are running. The Cook Shack was a waiter-service restaurant at Mid-Vail for many years. The company has started discussing the proposed restaurant with the Forest Service, said Don Dressler, who works in the agency’s Minturn office.

“We have not received a formal proposal, but we have started talking about it,” he said.Buffalo’s Restaurant is at the top of Chairs 4, 5 and 11.The restaurant idea will be part of a long-range plan for Vail Mountain that will be released later this month. That plan will also address lift upgrades on the mountain that the company wants to happen over the next five to seven years, Dressler said.
