New spinal surgeon at Steadman Hawkins Clinic
VAIL, Colorado Lyon Steadman, chief executive officer of the Steadman Hawkins Clinic, based in Vail, announced the appointment of spinal surgeon Sanjitpal Sonny Gill, M.D. as the most recent addition to the clinics Summit County office. Dr. Gill will began practicing in Summit County this month.Dr. Gill is an ideal fit with his professional and fellowship training in both sports medicine and spine, Steadman said. His expertise in athletic injuries in the areas of the cervical and lumbar spine make him uniquely qualified for this position. We are extremely excited to have him join our team here in Colorado. Gill completed the Steadman Hawkins Sports Medicine Foundation Fellowship program in 2005 before working at Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas located in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Prior to his tenure as a Steadman Hawkins Fellow, he completed a fellowship at the Emory Spine Center at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.Im excited to be back in Colorado, Gill said. The people who live and vacation here are extremely active and passionate about the sports that they pursue. I look forward to my role in keeping those people physically active and allowing them to continue engaging in their athletic dreams.After graduating from Boston Universitys seven year accelerated combined B.A.-M.D. program, Dr. Gill interned and completed his residency at University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. Gills medical acumen transcends the world of surgery to include numerous academic appointments, including the position of Adjunct Assistant Professor in the department of bioengineering at Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina, which he currently holds. Gills academic work has been published in 14 medical publications and he has authored or co-authored seven book chapters. As a speaker, he has presented more than 30 times to national and international audiences, including garnering the Albert Trillat award at the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine during its bi-annual meeting held in New Zealand. In addition, Gills career includes team coverage for numerous professional and collegiate sports teams including: Colorado Rockies, Denver Broncos, University of Virginia Mens Lacrosse team during the ACC Tournament and serving the United States Ski & Snowboard Association in many capacities. Gill is currently involved with the U.S. Pro Cycling Championships, the Greenville Drive Minor League baseball team, serves as the team physician for the United States Ski & Snowboard Association and is a physician for the 2008 Ford Ironman Triathlon World Championships in Kona, Hawaii.
