New standardized tests coming to Colorado
DENVER, Colorado – The Colorado Department of Education says it plans to implement new standardized tests that could eliminate the Colorado Student Assessment Program, or CSAP.
The department said this week that the new tests would not be in the form of CSAP’s multiple-choice questions based on as many as 30 topics in 13 content areas, including geography and math. Instead, students would focus on fewer topics but would have to show they understand and can apply solutions to problems in an essay in some cases.
Education officials say school districts would have two years to implement the new testing, which is based on systems in Massachusetts and Finland.
