EAGLE-VAIL — With Eagle County experiencing significantly more January snow than usual, the area has certainly looked and felt like a winter wonderland the past few weeks. It’s fitting, then, that the latest collectible print from Signature Colorado is called “Winter Wonderland.”

Signature Colorado is a Vail Valley-based company that sells products showcasing Colorado’s experiential beauty. The limited-edition print, illustrated by local artist Dawn Beacon, depicts a family of four riding the gondola, creating their own family tradition.

“The faces and postures of the parents and two young children capture the pure joy of perfect family powder runs followed by snow-globe gondola rides,” said Rich Staats, who co-owns Signature Colorado with local creative guru Aaron Cessna.

Most Treasured Asset

It’s the second year Signature Colorado has released the limited-edition prints. To Staats and Cessna, Colorado’s scenery is their most treasured asset. So they decided to produce a series of limited-edition prints meant to showcase the local mountains, which people travel the world over to experience. Their hope is that the prints become collectible art that both locals and visitors seek out year after year.

Beacon, a longtime Eagle County resident who illustrates children’s books, creates the original artwork each year. The first two collectible prints released in 2015 proved to be very popular. Produced using archival-quality paper and a special five-color printing process, only 1,000 prints are created, and of those, only 100 are signed by the artist. The design is reminiscent of the Chamonix Mont Blanc posters of the 1970s, with muted colors and a fun, vintage vibe.

‘The Racer’

Of the four collectible prints produced annually, only one includes the year. The 2015 collectible print, dubbed “The Racer,” was fitting, considering the excitement of the 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships that enveloped the valley. In it, a ski racer prepares for the race at the top of the course, with fans lining the ski run farther downhill. From the expansive scenery beyond, it’s clear the setting is Beaver Creek.

This year’s second print, titled “Powder Couple” and featuring Vail’s Back Bowls, will be released in time for Valentine’s Day. The limited-edition prints, which measure 24 inches by 36 inches, start at $79. They are sold online at signaturecolorado.com and at the Vail Daily office in Eagle-Vail.
