New year, new business opportunities in Vail

The beginning of a new year is a time for careful reflection, optimistic resolution and resolute optimism. The past year was challenging to be sure, and even though the financial troubles that began in 2008 may only worsen in 2009, we must focus on the strength of our community and the opportunities that always emerge in difficult times. We should also remember how lucky we are to live and work in such a rare and beautiful place. The Vail Valley is one of the worlds premier vacation destinations, and tourists will continue to visit our home regardless of the worldwide economic maladies. For that reason alone, our local businesses will weather this financial storm. In an effort to energize potential guests from the Front Range, Vails business community recently started the Vail, All the Love campaign. The campaign uses a unique Web site and direct mailings to attract Front Range customers to Vail this winter. The program offers substantial savings on lodging from more than 50 local properties and savings on Vail Snowsports School lessons, mountain dining venues, and Adventure Ridge activities. More than 60 restaurants, bars, shops, spas and other businesses throughout Vail are also providing exclusive offers to consumers carrying the Vail, All the Love card. The community should take pride in this campaign because of its strong potential to energize customers from the Front Range and, equally important, because Vail, All the Love is the product of a joint effort between the town of Vail, Vail Mountains marketing organization, local lodging and merchant interests, and other members of the Vail community. This program reinforces what we can accomplish when the business community, the town of Vail and local residents work together toward a common goal. Along with the Epic Tass, the Vail, All the Love campaign will help to bring Front Range guests to Vail this winter and revitalize the local economy.The Vail Chamber & Business Association encourages you to look at the Vail, All the Love campaign as an example of how businesses can capitalize on new opportunities during the current economic slump. Here are seome additional ideas to help your business succeed in 2009: Be imaginative. Establish new marketing channels to increase your client base. Improve and expand your services. Reevaluate your expenses. Find ways to run your business more efficiently. Speak with colleagues and share ideas. Discuss those ideas that are and working and those that are not. Take advantage of the tools that are available to you (the Internet and business organizations like the Vail chamber are a great place to start). Always look for ways to become more efficient. Keep your staff motivated. This may not be a good time for raises or bonuses, so find other ways to compliment and motivate your employees.The Vail business community is in for a challenging year. There is no doubt about that. There is also no doubt that the greatest success always grows from adversity. The Vail Chamber & Business Association wishes you a healthy, creative and successful 2009.
