VAIL “The New York Philharmonic will perform a selection of festive classics tonight under the baton of guest conductor Bramwell Tovey.

Joining the orchestra are two guests: Argie Tang, guest conductor, and Joyce Yang, piano soloist.

Tang, platinum-level Bravo! contributor and Friend of the New York Philharmonic, makes her conducting debut tonight after winning the opportunity during a live auction at the 2007 Bravo! gala. Tang is the third person to receive the conductorship opportunity. Last year’s guest conductor was former Vail Resorts CEO Adam Aron, who will be in attendance to watch the baton get handed off to Tang.

The concert opens with Beethoven’s “Turkish March” under the direction of Tang, and moves to Shostakovich’s energetic “Festive Overture.” The first half ends with Rachmaninoff’s Concerto No. 2 in C Minor for piano and orchestra.

Joyce Yang, piano soloist, joins the orchestra for Rachmaninoff’s piano concerto. Yang began her piano career at age 4 and later became the recipient of several awards at international piano competitions. She returns to the festival after performing to a sold-out crowd during the New York Philharmonic’s 2007 residency.
