New York Philharmonic returns to the Vail Bravo! stage
Vail CO Colorado
VAIL – The Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival presents “Elixir of Love” at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater with the New York Philharmonic, Maestro Bramwell Tovey and soprano Nicole Cabell.
Programming for tonight’s concert includes many works from popular operas including Rossini’s overture to “La Cenerentola,” Mozart’s “E Susanna non vien … Dove sono,” from “Le Nozze di Figaro,” Donizetti’s “Prendi per me sei libero,” from “L’Elisir d’amore,” Puccini’s intermezzo from Act III of “Manon Lescaut,” Charpentier’s “Depuis le jour,” from “Louise,” Gounod’s “Jewel Song,” from “Faust,” Gounod’s “Ballet Music” from “Faust,” and Massenet’s “Ballet Music” from “Le Cid.”
“These are some of the chestnuts of the opera repertoire,” says Lynne Mazza, Bravo’s associate artistic director. “The ‘Ballet Music’ by Gounod and Massenet provide a lovely conclusion to the evening’s festive program.”
Tonight, Bravo’s chairman of the board of trustees, Alan Kosloff, will be a guest conductor with the Philharmonic. Kosloff earned this honor with the winning bid at the live auction at Bravo’s 2009 Gala. He will begin the evening conducting the orchestra members in a three-minute piece from “Carmen.”
