Vail, CO, Colorado

VAIL ” The Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival continues the celebration of 20th anniversary season with a performance by the New York Philharmonic and violinist Gil Shaham Sunday. Conductor Ludovic Morlot will lead the philharmonic in their third performance in the Vail Valley this season at the Ford Amphitheater.

Grammy award winning violinist Gil Shaham is recognized for his virtuosic style and ability to connect with the audience. In addition to his numerous appearances with orchestras, Shaham performs recitals in Europe, Japan, and all over the United States. With over a dozen recordings of solo performances and concertos, Shaham has received multiple honors from competitions around the world. Shaham will join the New York Philharmonic for the performance of one of the most challenging violin concertos, Mozart’s “Concerto in D Major.”

Under the direction of Morlot, the New York Philharmonic will open the concert with the energetic and adventuresome “Le Corsaire Overture,” by Berlioz. The performance will conclude with Tchaikovsky’s “Symphony No. 6 in B Minor, Pathethique.” The title of the symphony in French and Russian implies courage and suffering. Appropriately, this symphony, which was premiered just nine days before Tchaikovsky’s death, was composed near the end of his life in a time of suffering and melancholy.

The concert will begin at 6 p.m. Tickets are $23 for general admission lawn seating, $62 for regular reserved seating, $84 for premium reserved seating. For complete artist roster, program details, and ticketing information, call 827-5700 or visit
