New Yorker cartoonists descend on Beaver Creek

BEAVER CREEK – Eight of The New Yorker Magazine’s best-known cartoonists present three days of wry observation and illustrated storytelling in Beaver Creek. Guests can sharpen their edges and wit as they meet the “minds behind the lines” in their favorite New Yorker cartoons at the resort’s new “Humor on the Slopes” Cartooning Festival Jan. 6-8. The event is part of Beaver Creek’s 25th Anniversary celebration.Participating cartoonists include Matt Diffee, Harry Bliss, Bob Mankoff, Ed Koren, Victoria Roberts and Jack Ziegler, Chad Covert Darbyshire and Drew Dernanavich. Samples of each artist’s work are available at to view cartoon collections categorized by artist.Headlining the weekend is the Humor on the Slopes Caption Contest. Each participating artist will provide a snow or winter snowsports-themed, caption-less illustration. Guests are invited to submit captions to the cartoons of their choice. The winners will be presented with the original art signed by the cartoonist and hand-lettered with their caption. Guests can also enjoy intimate dialogues and panel discussions with their favorite cartoonists and can take home custom-drawn cartoons. Cartoonists Bliss and Diffee will entertain the younger set with daily kid-tooning events and more. All Humor on the Slopes events are free and open to the public.Neil Diamond tribute band “Super Diamond” will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 7, at the Vilar Center for the Arts as part of the resort’s 25th Anniversary celebration.
