Daniel Joly, chef/owner of Mirabelle restaurant at the base of Beaver Creek, made a quick one-day trip to New York City last week where he met Martha Stewart, along with famous chefs Anthony Bourdain and Eric Ripert.

Meeting Stewart in person made Joly a little nervous, he said.

“I was thinking I will have to be on my best behavior but she was really nice,” Joly said.

Both Bourdain (his series “No Reservations” is in its fifth season on the Travel Channel) and Ripert (chef and co-owner of Le Bernardin restaurant in New York City) were guests on Stewart’s Sirius Satellite Radio show called At Martha’s Table. Joly, a master Belgian chef, is one of two executive chefs for Belgian beer Stella Artois and was asked to attend the live broadcast as a spokesperson for the beer company, he said.

One Vail eatery is taking a unique direction with its Valentines Day offerings. In addition to its regular menu, La Tour is offering a special V-Day menu focused on the “seven deadly sins” on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Lust, the first course, pairs three kumamoto oysters on the half shell with American sturgeon caviar, campagne fluid gel and chervil, but its the sixth course ” “Pride” ” that really has our mouth watering. This surf-and-turf dish pairs a pan-seared three ounce Kobe cap steak with a butter-poached half lobster tail, white and green asparagus, lyonnaise potato and two sauces ” black truffle and bernaise.

The seventh course, “Greed,” is warm chocolate fondant and raspberry mousse with chocolate raspberry wine. A pearl necklace from Karats, the jewelry store located next door to La Tour, adorns the dish. You can take it home for “market price.”

Pricing starts at $109 for three-courses and goes up to $169 for all seven courses. Call 970-476-4403 for more information.

Three Eagle County restaurants are offering Valentines Day specials before the big day on Saturday. Vail’s Larkspur is offering 50 percent off bottles of champagne through Thursday. Call 970-479-8050 for more information.

Avondale, located in the Westin in Avon, is offering a four-course dinner for two for $70 through Thursday. Choose between mussels and squid with lemon butter or a mushroom pizza for the first course, a gulf shrimp and mango salad or oxtail risotto with shaved black truffles for the second course. Entree choices include chicken piccata with sweet potato polenta and spinach or roasted wild salmon with green lentils and prossecco fondue. Dessert is dark chocolate pudding with sugar-and-spice churros or roasted banana and pineapple crepe with yogurt sorbet. Call 970-790-5500 for more information.

Terra Bistro is trying to lure restaurant industry employees who have to work on Valentine’s Day in early to celebrate by offering 10 percent off the bill. The special ends tonight. Be sure to mention you’re a restaurant employee before you dine in order to receive the discount. Call 970-476-6836 for more information.
