Daniel Joly, chef/owner of Mirabelle restaurant at the base of Beaver Creek, made a quick one-day trip to New York City last week where he met Martha Stewart, along with famous chefs Anthony Bourdain and Eric Ripert.

Meeting Stewart in person made Joly a little nervous, he said.

“I was thinking I will have to be on my best behavior but she was really nice,” Joly said.

Both Bourdain (his series “No Reservations” is in its fifth season on the Travel Channel) and Ripert (chef and co-owner of Le Bernardin restaurant in New York City) were guests on Stewart’s Sirius Satellite Radio show called At Martha’s Table. Joly, a master Belgian chef, is one of two executive chefs for Belgian beer Stella Artois and was asked to attend the live broadcast as a spokesperson for the beer company, he said.

One Vail eatery is taking a unique direction with its Valentines Day offerings. In addition to its regular menu, La Tour is offering a special V-Day menu focused on the “seven deadly sins” on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Lust, the first course, pairs three kumamoto oysters on the half shell with American sturgeon caviar, campagne fluid gel and chervil, but its the sixth course ” “Pride” ” that really has our mouth watering. This surf-and-turf dish pairs a pan-seared three ounce Kobe cap steak with a butter-poached half lobster tail, white and green asparagus, lyonnaise potato and two sauces ” black truffle and bernaise.

The seventh course, “Greed,” is warm chocolate fondant and raspberry mousse with chocolate raspberry wine. A pearl necklace from Karats, the jewelry store located next door to La Tour, adorns the dish. You can take it home for “market price.”

Pricing starts at $109 for three-courses and goes up to $169 for all seven courses. Call 970-476-4403 for more information.
