NICK JOZWIAK, Bass
Nick will be a sophomore at Naperville Central High School in Naperville, IL, in the fall. He has been playing the double bass for six years and the electric for five years. While in middle school he played bass in the school jazz band and jazz combo and is now playing in both at his high school.
Nick was selected to perform the improvised solo on a John Clayton composition at the International Society of Bassists and he won “Best Bach” honors in the ISB Young Bassists Competition. In addition, he won “Outstanding Jazz Musicianship” honors at the New Trier Jazz Festival and first chair in the Illinois Music Educators Association state competition in the jazz division.
For the last three years, Nick has been the principal bassist for the Youth Symphony of DuPage. One of Nick’s proudest accomplishments was winning a scholarship as the youngest student ever to be selected to the Brubeck Institute.
Nick has already started to work in the Chicago area with ensembles as diverse as small orchestras, jazz combos, and rock bands. Through Music From The Hear, a nonprofit organization, Nick has provided free music lessons to children in need in his community.
