Nina McLemore fashion event helps Can Do MS

Daily staff report

VAIL — The Nina McLemore boutique in Vail is hosting a benefit event for Can Do MS on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. There will be hors d’oeuvres, live music and wine tastings courtesy of Vines at Vail. Owner and designer Nina McLemore will be in the boutique Saturday and Sunday with a preview of her new fall collection.

Nina McLemore will be donating 15 percent of sales Saturday through July 14 when Can Do MS is mentioned.

Since 1984, Can Do MS, formerly The Jimmie Heuga Center for Multiple Sclerosis, has been at the forefront of promoting the culture and belief that everyone living with MS has the power to live full lives. Now a national nonprofit organization, Can Do MS is a leading provider of innovative lifestyle empowerment programs that empower people with MS and their support partners to transform and improve their quality of life. Can Do MS’ interdisciplinary approach fills a unique gap in the continuum of MS care management.

Nina McLemore believes strongly in supporting philanthropy, and the company donated almost $300,000 last year to charity and has been supportive of Can Do MS for several years as she, like most of us, has friends who are living with MS.

McLemore designs a collection for both professional women and the “community professional” woman who serves on boards, travels and is active in social events. She cuts for all body types, with flattering colors and styles in sizes ranging from 00 to 18. The separates-oriented collection includes day, better casual and evening segments. The fabrics are made with natural fibers including cotton from Switzerland, exotic hand-woven silks from India and fine wools and tweeds from Italy and Scotland. Many of the fabrics are also designed by McLemore.

The collection is made in New York. There are 14 stores throughout the U.S., including boutiques in Vail and Aspen. McLemore was recently featured on Bloomberg Market Watch and in the Wall Street Journal for dressing high profile women such as Hillary Clinton; Ellen Kullman, CEO of DuPont; Janet Yellen, chair of the Federal Reserve; and Gwen Ifill, PBS Journalist. McLemore also understands the needs of the busy Colorado woman. As a lifelong skier in Vail and homeowner in Crested Butte for the past decade, she knows that the colors, styles and fabrics are suited for Colorado.

To make an appointment with McLemore Saturday or Sunday, call 970-476-4809 or stop by the Nina McLemore boutique at 183 Gore Creek Drive in Vail Village.
