No charges against Eagle cops

EAGLE ” District Attorney Mark Hurlbert closed the investigation of Eagle officers Steve Delaney and Bob Regan Monday after not finding evidence the men worked as officers while uncertified, he said.

Though both men were certified in the states they transferred from this summer, Colorado requires certification by the state’s Peace Officers Standards and Training board ” or POST.

Delaney, 54, resigned during the investigation and Regan, 55, is now on desk duty.

“I’m going to hand it over to the POST board to see what they want to do,” Hurlbert said. “I don’t think at this time I can prove it beyond a reasonable doubt.”

Eagle Mayor Jon Stavney said he is pleased charges won’t be filed.

“I think it’s important that the gentlemen’s reputations be upheld and it appears they haven’t done anything wrong,” Stavney said.

Regan is on desk duty until POST approves his provisional certification, Stavney said.

Hurlbert refused to say why the case couldn’t be proven.

“We got a complaint and were investigating … it happens from time to time,” Hurlbert said.
