No injuries reported in remotely triggered avalanche in Summit County, officials confirm on social media

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office alerted the community via a Facebook post to an avalanche on Peak 1 which occurred the morning of Saturday, Jan. 4.
According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, no one was caught or injured in the avalanche, which took place on a northeast aspect of Peak 1 above Frisco.
The avalanche was remotely triggered by two backcountry tourers, according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center. The pair appear to be visible in the Summit County Sheriff’s Office video walking along a ridgeline before the avalanche begins.
“The avalanche danger remains considerable in Summit County, with a special avalanche advisory in effect through the weekend,” the office said in its Jan. 4 Facebook post. “Proper knowledge and terrain choice are critical for safe travel.”
The Colorado Avalanche Information Center, which also posted about the event on Facebook, said in its Jan. 4 post, “Don’t rely on luck. Understand conditions are dangerous.”
