The issue: A new interchange for Edwards

Who they talked to: Ben Gerdes, staff engineer for Eagle County

What they talked about: State funding for an Edwards interchange is no longer available, Gerdes said.

A second Edwards exit off Interstate 70 has been talked about as a way to ease rush-hour traffic around Lake Creek and was high on the list for funding from Senate Bill 1, officials said.

Senate Bill 1 allocates some state sales tax revenue for transportation funding, but Gerdes said the county was told there won’t be any money available because of the poor economy.

“I think CDOT was a little premature in telling us that we had the money,” said authority member Todd Williams.

Ken Marchetti, the group’s facilitator, said he thinks the group should still try to get the project ready in case funding does become available.

“I think it does make sense to diligently pursue it and get it completely shelf ready,” he said.

What’s next? The county is still working through the process to acquire the land necessary to complete the interchange.
