No tickets to be issued in Eagle County car-cyclist collision

EAGLE COUNTY — A Steamboat Springs man, who was seriously injured Friday morning when his bicycle collided head-on with a pickup truck on Highway 131 has been identified as Richard Berkley, 72. Berkely is currently in stable condition at Denver Health, where he was flown after the crash.

The crash happened at approximately 11:40 a.m. Friday on Highway 131, about eight miles north of the Wolcott. A 2008 tan Toyota Tundra driven by 39-year-old Travis Kirby, of McCoy, was traveling northbound and, the bicyclist was traveling southbound, when they collided in the roadway. Highway 131 was closed in both directions for about one hour during the investigation. The road was reopened just after 12:30 p.m.

The Colorado State Patrol has completed its investigation, and no citation will be issued to either driver.
