BEAVER CREEK – Long-time entertainer Charo is known for many things: her “cuchie cuchie” cuteness as a regular guest on “The Love Boat,” her thick Spanish accent and light-hearted humor. But Charo’s greatest accomplishment as a classically trained guitarist is probably her least known attribute. The Spanish spitfire showcases all her talents in concert at the Vilar Center in Beaver Creek on Sunday, July 16, at 8 p.m.Charo, born Maria Rosario Pilar Martinez Molina Baeza, is a graduate of the Andres Segovia Institute at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. She has studied under the master himself, Andres Segovia, who is considered to be the father of modern classical guitar and responsible for single-handedly pushing the guitar into the spotlight as a solo instrument in the late 1920s. Twice voted Flamenco Guitarist of the Year by Guitar Player Magazine, Charo describes her sound as young flamenco and salsa combined with magnificent classical masterpieces.”Our audience is really in for a treat,” says the Vilar Center’s Kris Sabel. “Everyone I speak with who’s seen the show says it’s a lot of fun. Charo’s a true entertainer; very personable and funny, but of course she’s an outstanding musician and real talent.”

Tickets for Charo on July 16 are available by calling the Vilar Center/Ford Amphitheater Box Office at 845-TIXS (8497) or by visiting http://www.vilarcenter.org. Special early season pricing is going on through July 14. Concertgoers who purchase tickets to four shows, get the fifth concert free.
