VAIL — “From the Top,” the preeminent showcase for young musicians heard weekly on Colorado Public Radio, comes to Vilar Performing Arts Center on Thursday at 6 p.m. This live radio recording event will celebrate the relationship between Bravo! Vail and the National Repertory Orchestra with a special performance of Poulenc’s Concerto for Two Pianos featuring Bravo! Vail Artistic Director Anne-Marie McDermott and “From the Top” host Christopher O’Riley, along with an orchestra of young musicians.
This recording of the popular NPR program hosted by acclaimed pianist Christopher O’Riley will feature amazing performances and captivating personal stories of young musicians from across the country, including the National Repertory Orchestra, a preeminent intensive fellowship that equips young musicians for orchestral music careers.
“From the Top” alumni horn player Shelby Nugent, a member of the National Repertory Orchestra, will also perform as a soloist. Three young soloists who are studying at the Aspen Summer Music Festival and School will also perform: 16-year-old pianist Youlan Ji from New York City; 17-year-old violinist Mira Yamamoto from Seattle, Washington; and 17-year-old cellist Lisa Strauss from Paris, France.
