Anthony Nicholson, a former Edwards resident who lived in Carbon County, Wyo., died June 27 in Portland, Ore., while seeking medical attention at the Oregon Health Science University. He was 46.

Nicholson was born in Denver in April 10, 1960, the son of Edward and Marlene Kay (Shurigar) Nicholson. He was raised in Rawlins, Wyo., and graduated from Rawlins High School in 1978.

He worked for the highway department in Rawlins for 18 years.

He may Nola Kay Smith on Dec. 6, 1986. The couple moved to Edwards in 1996, where Nicholson was a security guard before going to work for Alpine Engineering, where he’d worked for the last 11 years.

The couple was married on March 24, 2006, at the Little Church of the West in Las Vegas, Nev.

Nicholson enjoyed four-wheeling, car races, camping, TV cooking shows and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, friends and family members say.

He had a good sense of humor, and loved to tell jokes and stories. He approached his disease with style and did all he could to combat it, friends and family members say.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marlene Kay Nicholson, who died on July 8, 2002.

He is survived by his wife, Nola Kay Nicholson of Edwards; his father, Edward Nicholson of Savery, Wyo.; stepdaughter Gwen and her husband, Brooks Clifton; grandchildren Kodie, Jason and Hailey Clifton of Willcox, Ariz.; sister Nicole Nicholson of Casper, Wyo.; brother Steve Nicholson and his wife, Holley; niece Beth Dodgson; and nephews Steve, Austin and Jeremiah Nicholson of Rawlins, Wyo.

Services were held Saturday. Burial will take place in Savery, Wyo., at a later date.
