Christine “Tina” Kaufman Thompson, a regular visitor to the valley, died Monday at her home in Merritt Island, Fla. She was 63.Thompson was born on March 18, 1943, in New York City to Barbara and Ralph Kaufman. Following graduation from Concord Academy in Massachusetts, and Colby Sawyer College in New Hampshire, she lived in Boston, where she worked as a graphic designer, and later in the 1970s moved to Vermont.

In 1998, she moved to Florida with her husband Tony to compete in equestrian events. She won several awards during her riding career.She also was an avid skier, sailor and artist, and enjoyed dancing, family members said. When in the Vail Valley, Thompson liked to fish in the Eagle River, hike on Meadow Mountain and ski at Beaver Creek, where her favorite runs were Spider and Peregrine, family members said.

She and her husband also were supporters of the Shaw Cancer Center and the Heuga Center for Multiple Sclerosis, family members said. Thompson is survived by her husband, Anthony B. Thompson of Florida; her mother, Barbara S. Kaufman of Vermont; her daughter, Stacey T. Gerrish of Colorado; sister Jenifer K. Mathieu; niece Montana Mathieu; nephew Cody Mathieu; stepsons Scott Gerrish, Bradley Gerrish and Alexander Thompson; stepdaughters Kristin Abouelata and Abigail Thompson; many other relatives; several pets; and four horses.

There will be a gathering at from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Monday, at Rivertime, 5655 South Tropical Trail, Merritt Island, Fla. A private memorial service will be held on her family property in Woodstock, Vt., in the spring.In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports, P.O.
