Dave Scott, 1950-2007

Longtime local David M. Scott, an avid mountain climber, died Feb. 7 at Hospice of Metro Denver in Aurora. He was 56.
Scott was born on May 15, 1950, in Nyack, N.Y. After graduating from high school, he attended art school in Philadelphia for three years, and in 1973 moved to Burlington, Vt., where began mountain climbing.
He climbed extensively in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, Smuggler’s Notch in Vermont, the Shawangunks in New York, and Yosemite and Tuolumne Meadows in California, friends say.
Scott moved to Minturn in 1986, and except for a brief return to Vermont, spent the next 20 years in Eagle County, where he frequently climbed in the Gore Range. He also climbed throughout Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming, friends say.
Scott also was an accomplished electric guitarists, friends say.
Scott is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Scott of Bradenton, Fla.; and two sisters, Donna (George) Spagnola of Bradenton, and Debbie (Chuck) Watson of Denver.
