Dean Peterson

Dean Frederick Peterson passed away on Aug. 19 and joined his wife, Radiance, of 61 years, who has also recently passed. Dean was born in Wesby, Wis., on May 7, 1925, to Alma and Gudmund Peterson. Dean was the youngest of five children and is survived by his sister Gertrude (Gert) Hoeshler and husband Bob, of California..

As an avid outdoorsman from early on, Dean joined the 10th Mountain Division, where he trained at Camp Hale and was sent overseas to fight in Italy during World War II. He was a decorated war veteran. Dean married Radiance (Rae) Erickson and soon moved back to Colorado. Dean and Rae raised their three children, Pam, Penny and Eric, surrounded by the beautiful Colorado Rockies. During and after the war, Dean taught skiing with patience and a true love of the sport. Much of Dean and Rae’s free time was spent playing tennis, fishing, motorcycle riding, backpacking, traveling in their motor home, and family skiing trips and picnics with smoked eggs.

Dean and Rae’s extended family, daughter Pam (Dan), grandchildren Peter and Samantha, daughter Penny (Ben), granddaughter Rachael, and great-grandson Naslund, and son Eric (Janie) and grandchildren Beau and Troy have a lifetime of wonderful memories. Dean will be sadly missed by his family and many close, life-long friends.

A memorial service is scheduled for today at 10 a.m. at Ryssby church on 63rd Street in Boulder County. A flag ceremony and reception will immediately follow the services.
