Debby Peterson dies May 9 at 55

Debby Peterson has lost her battle with melanoma. She died peacefully Tuesday, May 9, surrounded by friends and husband, Craig. Peterson’s courage and determination in the face of her cancer inspired all who knew her.Peterson was born December 11, 1950 in Kalamazoo, Mich. She attended Western Michigan University and graduated in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in education. She met her husband Craig during her college years, and they married September 29, 1973. They moved to Vail in 1975.Over the years, Peterson worked many places in many capacities, the most recent being the Charter in Beaver Creek. She also worked at the Comfort Inn in Avon for 16 years. Her favorite pastimes were travel, camping and fishing. One of Peterson’s greatest joys was playing the piano at the United Methodist Church in Eagle which she continued to do as long as she was able.Peterson was preceded in death by her parents, David and Juanita Smith. She is survived by her husband, Craig. There will be a memorial service for Peterson at 1 p.m. June 1 at United Methodist Church in Eagle. A celebration of her life will follow at the Brush Creek Pavilion.
