Delfino E. Sanchez, an Army veteran and longtime Eagle County resident, died Dec. 8.

Delfino E. Sanchez died Dec. 8 at his home in Pueblo. He was 79.

Sanchez was born Dec. 17, 1925 in Seven Mile Plaza, Colo., the son of the late Jose and Isabelle (Valdez) Sanchez. Sanchez, who lived in Eagle County for many years, was a retired miner and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Europe during World War II. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and music, which he played with his brothers in their band the Jolly Js during the 1950s.

Sanchez is survived by his wife, Berneda Ribal Sanchez; children, David (Eva) Sanchez, Charlene (Steve) Pena, Connie (Art) Vasquez, Louis Sanchez, Dylene Sanchez, Corrina (Leroy) Lovato, Angela (Steve) Barry, Yolanda Sanchez, and Clista Sanchez; 22 grandchildren;19 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; his brothers, Eddie and Arsenio Sanchez; and a sister, Frances Garcia. He was preceded in death by brothers Jose and Herman Sanchez; sister Louisa Dupont and great-grandson Jerome Gallegos.

Services with full military honors were held Dec. 13 at Holy Family Catholic Church.
