Dick Ryan, former Vail Valley resident, 1940-2010

Richard Augustine “Dick” Ryan, 70, of Arlington, Texas, died Sunday. He was 70.
He was born Feb. 12, 1940, in Leominster, Mass., to Augustine Joseph and Marion Elizabeth (Snow) Ryan.
Dick moved to Colorado after earning his Bachelor of Science in business and his Master of Science in regional planning and was actively involved in the planning activities of Aurora and Boulder before serving as the town development manager for Vail in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
He and his wife, the former Darlene Montgomery, met in Denver and were married by Don Simonton in Vail on Nov. 22, 1986. Dick and Darlene lived in Denver; Los Angeles; San Diego; Arlington, Texas; Hurst, Texas; Louisville; and Fort Worth, Texas.
He enjoyed traveling all over the world and loved to golf with his many lifelong friends.
Dick always especially treasured the years he lived in Vail, decorating their house with Vail Symposium posters and photos of himself as a clown in the Fourth of July parade. His illness for the last several years prevented travel but Vail was always part of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Montgomery Ryan; and son Kevin Montgomery Ryan.
Services will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Moore Funeral Home in Arlington, Texas. Burial will be in Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Moore Funeral Home in Arlington.
