Friedrich Anton Feller of Vail died Sept. 12 after battling cancer. He was 77.

A memorial mass will be held today at 1 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Minturn. Memorial contributions in his name can be made to the Shaw Regional Cancer Center at PO Box 40000, Vail, 81658.

Feller worked as a cheesemaker, fast-food shop owner, liquor store owner, rancher, motel owner, and real estate professional. He said his favorite was ranching, according to his family. His hobbies included skiing, hunting, hiking and carpentry.

His family said he was a ski patroller and involved with Vail Guest Services, Habitat for Humanity, the Cattlemen’s Association, Soil Conservation District, the TEV Edelweiss Club, Kiwanis, and served on the Plateau Valley School Board.

He was born Feb. 3, 1926, to Sebastian Feller and Theresa Unterberger in Going, province of Tirol, Austria. He married Maria E. Nothegger Sept. 7, 1953, who preceded him in death Dec. 3, 1992. He married Ernestine Binder in June 1994, who survives him.

Feller moved to the United States in 1953. He and Maria had six children. In addition to his wife, Erna Feller, he is survived by Christine M. Feller, Frederick A. and Annette Feller, Theresa V. and James Harkreader, Stephen M. and Cathy Feller, Maria A. and Peter Schwaiger, and Thomas G. and Shawna Feller. His 13 grandchildren are Andre, Christian, Hansi, Micah, Daniel, Nicole, Maria, Samantha, Matthias, Sonja, Chelsey, Anthony and Tommi Elizabeth.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Minturn.

“After a brief battle with cancer, Papa rests,” his family said in a statement. “He was loved by many, including his neighbors whom he often helped with building projects and repairs. We thank you for being our dad and may God bless you.”
