Fred Pfeffer, longtime local, died Tuesday

Many locals know Fred Pfeffer from Second Hand Rose in Minturn, which he and wife Liz opened in the mid-1970s.

Longtime Eagle County local, Fred Pfeffer, died in Grand Junction on Tuesday after a long illness. Fred turned 60 on Christmas Eve.Fred and Liz Pfeffer literally rolled into Vail in 1972 after their VW bus broke down on the west side of Vail Pass.

Fred worked in the construction industry throughout the valley with Mountain Mobile Mix, B&B Excavating, Eagle West Constructors and, more recently, Western Colorado Testing and HP GeoTech. Many locals know Fred from Second Hand Rose in Minturn, which he and Liz opened in the mid-1970s.The Pfeffers lived in Vail, Avon and Eagle before settling in Grand Junction in 1993.

Fred is survived by his wife, Liz, and daughter, Tegan, of Grand Junction; and his son, Zach, daughter-in-law Colleen and two grandsons, of Fruita.
