Harold ‘Hal’ Engstrom, 1928-2007

Architect Harold “Hal” Engstrom died last month at his home in Denver, where he had lived since 1994.
At 17, Engstrom was one of the youngest students accepted to the University of Notre Dame’s pilot Architectural Design program. He earned licenses to practice in five states, including California, Colorado and Wyoming, where he served as president of the American Institute of Architects.
Engstrom moved with his family to Vail from Wyoming in 1974. He was involved in the land planning, design and development of several properties in the Vail Valley.
He is survived by his children, Lisa and Jim of Napa, Calif., Christina and twins Hardy and Kevin of Denver, and Lael of Vail; and granddaughters Rachel and Gabriella.
