Harvey Lee “H.L.” Blevins, a former school teacher and basketball coach, died Wednesday in Glenwood Springs. He was 81.

Blevins was born July 10, 1925, to Harvey and Aribelle (Hunter) Blevins in Fox, Okla. He married Bobbye Grace Covey on June 25, 1949, in Dallas, Texas.

He was a member of United Methodist Church in Casper, Wyo., and attended services at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Glenwood Springs.

A World War II veteran, Blevins served in the U.S. Army in the Army in the South Pacific from 1942 to 1945. He served in the Marines during the Korean War.

Blevins was a public school teacher and basketball coach prior to retirement. His passions included his family and friends, coaching and playing basketball, hunting, fishing, golf and dancing, family members said.

Blevins was preceded in death by his parents and, in 1996, his wife, Bobbye.

He is survived by his son, Thomas P. “Teep” Blevins; daughters Belinda Knievel and Susan Blevins and grandchildren Jennifer Knievel, Christopher Knievel, Hunter Blevins and Weston Blevins.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., March 24 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 546 Hyland Park Dr., Glenwood Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family requests and appreciates donations to the charity of your choice.
