Herb Blatter, 1939-2002

He was born in 1939 in Golden to Clarence and Leona Blatter. He attended Golden High School, graduating in 1957, then on to the University of Colorado School of Medicine until 1959, when he joined the U.S. Army.

Herb served in the both the army medical core and army air support in Texas, Virginia and Alaska.

Following his service in the military Herb spent three years traveling the country.

In 1966 he married Linda Rozelle of Clifton.

Being a native of Colorado, Herb took great pleasure in hunting and fishing and climbing in the wilderness. He also enjoyed bowling, pinochle and pool, and had many friends in the Eagle River Valley.

Herb is survived by: his ex-wife, Linda Blatter of Rifle; sons James of New Castle and Ken of Rifle; adopted sons Brent Berg of Montana, Heith Felps of Seattle and Alan Everett of Rifle; brother Ken Blatter of Golden; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Don and his son Dominic.

Services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Garfield County, 632 Grand, in Silt on Saturday at 11 a.m. A reception will follow at Herb’s son Ken’s house, 1701 Howard Ave., in Rifle.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Veterans Administration Hospital in Grand Junction and/or LIFT-UP of Rifle.
