J. Scot Poggenpohl, former Vail Valley resident
Vail, CO Colorado
J. Scot Poggenpohl, 39, died the evening of Sept. 22 at the University of Colorado Hospital in Denver from complications related to his heart condition.
He is survived by his very beloved young daughters born in Colorado and now residing in North Carolina: Alexia Poggenpohl, Isabella Poggenpohl and Aviana Poggenpohl; and by his brother Jay “Zak” Poggenpohl in Taiwan; and his grandmother Betty Lou Poggenpohl of Des Moines, and his parents Sharon and Rex Poggenpohl of Estes Park, Colorado.
He grew up along Lake Michigan on the north side of Chicago; in a suburb of Kansas City; and in Media, Pa., a suburb of Philadelphia. Scot visited the family second home in the Vail Valley since 1983 and settled in Eagle County as an adult to manage various movie theaters in the area.
After two heart attacks, he spent the last years of his life in Estes Park. He loved the mountains and will be missed by his far-flung extended family and friends.
A private and generous man, he would have appreciated memorial donations to the American Heart Association or the U.S. Olympic Committee in lieu of flowers. A celebration of life in his honor is planned in November in Estes Park.
